How NDIS funding works for allied health

July 20, 2026

If you or someone you care for is an NDIS participant, allied health services like exercise physiology and occupational therapy can often be funded through your plan. Here is a plain-English overview of how it generally works in Australia.

What the NDIS can fund

The NDIS funds supports that are reasonable and necessary and linked to your goals. For allied health, that commonly falls under Capacity Building — Improved Daily Living, which can cover assessments and therapy that build your skills and independence.

Plan-managed, self-managed or agency-managed

  • Self-managed: you pay providers and claim back through the myplace portal. You can usually choose any provider.
  • Plan-managed: a plan manager pays invoices on your behalf from your plan funding.
  • Agency-managed (NDIA): providers claim directly, and you generally need NDIS-registered providers.

It is worth checking how your plan is managed before you book, as it affects which providers you can see.

Getting started

Bring your plan details to your first appointment so we can confirm how your funding applies. If you are not sure, our reception team can talk it through with you and coordinate with your support coordinator or plan manager where needed.
